The objective of the event is to identify and assess skills gaps, needs, high-impact policies and regulations in the Energy Sector, for energy transition through digitalization. The focus of the ”EDDIE Final Event and LSP on the Digitalisation of the Energy System” will highlight some of the most significant skills gap, the necessary curricula changes, and the most appropriate regulatory and policy measures required for the adaptation of technologies in the emerging digital era of the energy sector. Furthermore, another objective of the session was to pave the way towards building a large-scale partnership under the Pact for Skills taking benefit from the Sectorial Skills Strategy that will be developed by EDDIE project.

Cedefop, together with the Spanish Presidency of the Council, organised the 15th Cedefop Brussels Seminar as a physical event. These seminars, organised in cooperation with the rotating EU-Presidencies, build on Cedefop research and address issues relevant to European debates on vocational education and training (VET) and employment.

During the context of the Week of Regions and Cities, EARLALL, SkillNet Ireland and EAEA are pleased to announce this workshop. The workshop will propose an exchange on initiatives that empower local & regional authorities, businesses, and communities to develop the skills needed to achieve a carbon-neutral local economy. Participants will reflect upon a roadmap for building capacity in Adult Learning Education that was piloted in Europe in the context of the REGALE project, in addition to hearing from practices on building good public-private partnerships, including the example of Skillnet Ireland and Cork City.

EDDIE representatives participated at the “Sectoral skills intelligence and strategies as drivers of the just transition” event on the 26th of September 2023. The event has been organized by European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), to address the need of having a skilled workforce to accelerate the just transition.

EDDIE representatives participated at the ERASMUS+ DAYS 2023, where education and innovation converged for a day of learning and inspiration. The event was held at the Brown Acropol Hotel in Athens on September 22, 2023, and the day was filled with engaging discussions and presentations on sustainable practices and innovation. The project has been represented by NOVEL Group SARL partner. The partner had the opportunity to showcase the EDDIE project, which is dedicated in shaping the digitalization of the European Energy sector.

EDDIE representatives participated at the 6th Event On Cybersecurity entitled ”European Energy Grids” – Security In A Changed Landscape – Closing The Skills Gap And Getting Prepared”, jointly organised by the European Distribution System Operators (E.DSO), the European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS), The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

EDDIE representatives participated at the 2023 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting that took place in Orlando, USA, on the 18th of July 2023. Prof. Nikos Hatziargyriou from our NTUA partner also delivered a presentation titled “Navigating the digital energy transition: Emerging skill needs and educational tools”.

The EDDIE Project is approaching its end, and after 3.5 years of activity combined with the hard work of the consortium, it still continues to reach a diverse and large audience. Recently, the outcomes of the project were showcased during the European Sustainable Energy Week 2023 (EUSEW) conference. As such, these references are demonstrating the high relevance of EDDIE’s activity in the energy sector.

The EDDIE Project participated at the IEEE PowerTech Belgrade 2023 conference organized and co-sponsored by IEEE, PES and School of Electrical Engineering Belgrade – University of Belgrade, and was held in Belgrade, Serbia between the 25th to 29th of June 2023.

POLIMI partners representative – Daniela Casiraghi presented the poster on the” Skill gap analysis and Esco Framework: the MOOC design process in EDDIE project” – a poster designed by D. Casiraghi, B. Santolini, and A.Tomasini.

EDDIE representatives hosted the second online workshop for the development of a “Large Scale Partnership for Digitalisation of Energy” on the 27th of June 2023. The event has been organized in collaboration with Ecorys, European Commission’s (EC) Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) to address the need of having a skilled workforce to accelerate the digital transition.

EDDIE representatives launched the first online workshop for the development of a “Large Scale Partnership for Digitalisation of Energy” on the 30th of May 2023. EDDIE Project co-organized the Smart Energy Solutions for the Energy Transition conference together with Bochum University of Applied Sciences, RWTH – Aachen University and the IDEASFORUM e.V. association. The event took place on the 24th of May 2023 in Herne and addressed the important role of open-source data platforms and business models for the necessary change in the energy grid as part of the energy transition.

EDDIE representatives have been present at the 2nd International workshop on “Open-Source Modelling and Simulation of Energy Systems” (OSMSES 2023) which took place in Aachen from the 27th to 29th of March 2023. In cooperation with the ERIGrid 2.0 Project and the IEEE PES Task Force on Innovative Teaching Methods for Modern Power and Energy Systems, National Technical University of Athens – NTUA partner co-organised the tutorial: “Emerging skill needs and training tools for professionals and researchers in the field of smart energy systems” and Mr. Panos Kotsampopoulos presented the EDDIE’s results related to this topic.

Eddie representatives participated at the NSF Joint US European Workshop: Flexible Electric Grid Critical Infrastructure for Resilient Society which was held between 21st and 22nd of April 2023. Mr. Alexandros Chronis presented insights and open questions produced by the ongoing work of the project during the discussion on the topic “The education and training fundamentals for the realization and support of a resilient society”.

What solutions are at hand to help Europe emerge from this crisis with a stronger and more sustainable economy? Can the electricity market design be rewritten to both protect customers from price volatility and attract the massive investments needed to reach net-zero?

With more than 70 participants, E.DSO held the 4th edition of its Projects in the Spotlight Event focusing on the role played by Distribution System Operators (DSOs) as facilitators of energy system integration. To address emerging skills gaps and needs, the EDDIE project is creating a Sector Skills Alliance (SSA) by bringing together all the relevant stakeholders in the Energy value chain such as industry, education and training providers, European organisations, recruiters, social partners, and public authorities.

The StoRIES project is holding three workshops as part of the “Energy Conversion and Storage Days”, a three-day event with a top-class programme organised by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe from 21 to 23 March 2023.

The EERA Energy Materials for Innovation (EM4I) initiative timely reflected on the importance of bringing materials science to the forefront of Europe’s energy research landscape if we are to achieve the net-zero objective. In parallel, the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative (AMI2030) has been later working at a roadmap and is now working at a governance plan and a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for advanced materials in Horizon Europe.

Representatives of EDDIE Project participated at the ”16th ETIP SNET Regional Workshop Western Region” which was held on 28th of February 2023, in Bilbao and online. European Technology & Innovation Platforms (ETIPs) have been created by the European Commission in the framework of the new Integrated Roadmap Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) by bringing together a multitude of stakeholders and experts from the energy sector.

On 24 November 2022, with more than 100 participants, Task Force 1 (TF1) “Active System Management” of the European Distribution System Operators’ Association for Smart Grids (E.DSO) Technology Committee successfully held a webinar to present their Grid Observability for Flexibility Report published on 20 October 2022.

On 23 November, the European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS), the Association of European Distribution System Operators (E.DSO), and the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), together hosted a hybrid event discussing the latest industry knowledge in a radically changed landscape resulting from the war in Ukraine with experts in the field of cybersecurity.

The event brought together Europe’s leading investors, policymakers, developers, utilities, energy buyers and service providers all in one place. This event guided the market on how to maximise storage revenues and reduce energy costs.

On 22 November, E.DSO-DG ENER-DG CNECT hosted the Joint Seminar “A multi-scale calibration approach for a digitalised energy system transformation’. The event brought together over 200 participants, both in Brussels and online, featured 17 speakers, 5 main sessions and 2 individual keynote remarks from the European Commission.

The 2022 edition of the SET Plan conference, “Towards a new Strategic Energy Technology Plan”, aims to explore the transformational pathways to sustainable, secure, resilient and competitive energy systems and value chains, as well as to raise awareness among all stakeholders on the latest research and innovations in the field of carbon-neutral energy technologies.

The Forum will discuss the latest developments on the European initiative on Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE). The event is jointly organised by the European Commission and the Basque government, with the support of the European Training Foundation (ETF)Cedefop and EACEA, as well as the Community of Practice on CoVEs, and Katapult.

EDDIE Project participated in this year’s ENLIT Europe event held between the 29th of November and the 1st of December in Frankfurt, Germany. Enlit is a constantly growing, inclusive and end-to-end forum that addresses every aspect of the energy agenda. Throughout the year, Enlit Europe tries to ensure collaborations and innovative discussions to solve the most pressing issues in energy. Enlit Europe brings one face-to-face with the best thought-leaders, innovators and disruptors in the energy sector and beyond. The various exhibitors present, represent power generators, IPPs, utilities, grid operators, energy companies, retailers, energy markets, energy traders and exchanges, plus commercial and industrial energy users. Apart from the latter, the Exhibition Floor doesn’t only offer leading organisations showcasing their latest tech, solutions and strategic insights, but different Zones, Country Pavilions and Hub Sessions. EDDIE was present in two locations which were the ‘EU Project Zone’ and the ‘Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub’ powered by Iberdrola.

The EC-funded MoveS network (Free Movement and Social Security Coordination) will organise a binational seminar (Romania/Italy) in Bucharest in on 26 October 2022. The seminar is being organised by MoveS in collaboration with its Romanian national expert Magda Șotropa and its Italian national expert Francesco Costamagna. MoveS is an EC-funded network of independent experts from 32 European countries coordinated by Eftheia and Deloitte.

18 November 2022

On Thursday 18 November, E.DSO organized a webinar titled “Blockchain and DSOs: an opportunity for the energy transition?” as the second event in the “Projects in the Spotlight” series. With more than 200 people registered, the event shed light on the work of E.DSO members’ innovation projects to address challenges in distribution operation by exploring the possibilities within the blockchain technology to help shape the energy sector of the future.

2nd Workshop on Innovative Interactive and Digital Teaching

Under the WITEA-ID project (Weeks of International Teaching – Inclusive and Digital), which is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, Novel Group Sarl organised the 2nd Workshop on Innovative Interactive and Digital Teaching in Luxembourg. The event took place, in hybrid mode, at the Hotel Parc Belle-Vue from September 16th to September 19th, 2022, for teaching staff from higher education institutions (HEIs) from Europe. In the framework of digital and inclusive teaching, the program covered a wide range of topics, including Digital Skills and Digital Transformation in Education, Digital Learning and Innovative Tools and Inclusive and Interactive Teaching Strategies.

InnoGrid 2022 - Mission Acceleration

On 29 June, InnoGrid 2022 was held for its 11th Edition in which E.DSO and ENTSO-E are co-organisers. It gathered policy-makers, grid operators, grid users, market participants, innovators, academics, and civil society representatives to discuss how to accelerate innovation in three key areas: electricity grids, active customers, and flexibility. Around 200 participants met and enjoyed networking, also together with projects representatives in the exhibition area, and more than 300 people were connected online.

UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022) aims at reshaping ideas and practices in higher education to ensure sustainable development for the planet and humanity. In the view of the global health crisis, UNESCO World Higher Education Conference, initially planned to be held in 2021, will take place from 18 to 20 May 2022.

The event brought together a broad and diverse range of stakeholders in the field of EO*GI including European institutions (the European Commission, EUSPA, ESA, as well as local and regional ones), with representatives of the private sector and academia and training providers, who discussed together the current needs and education gaps in the EO*GI sector, what means are put in place to tackle it, and what additional steps and initiatives shall be further undertaken.

On Friday 1 April, E.DSO organized the third webinar in the E.DSO “Projects in the Spotlight” series, titled “Raising the uptake of renewables by DSOs”. With around 100 participants, the event shed light on E.DSO members’ R&I projects addressing the challenges in distribution operation related to the sharp rise in renewables in new innovative ways which will help shape the energy sector of the future.

In addition to 6 dedicated conferences covering key aspects of the energy transition, technical site visits and a major tradeshow will present the latest technology innovations and solutions. The European Commission, namely DG ENERGY and DG CONNECT organized this dedicated workshop as the first step towards the creation of a platform to support innovation ecosystems – gathering national, regional, local, European institutions and energy and digital players – to support investments, skills and expertise of strategic digital technologies in the energy system, from innovation to deployment.

Under the aegis of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the five national alliances (gathering the French research organizations and universities under 5 embedding topics: energy, environment, numeric, health, human and social sciences) have produced a positioning document which reflects a common and shared vision of new directions in research, to serve the major transitions, in the emerging academic discipline of sustainability science.

EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2021

The EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is a month-long series of activities to build a secure energy future for Europe. It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power. EDDIE Project will be part of EUSEW 2021 within a policy session in collaboration with DG ENER.

3rd Coordinet Stakeholder Forum - Roadmap for a Green Deal fit market design

We are very happy to invite you to The 3rd Coordinet Stakeholder Forum which will happen on the 25th of November from 14:30-16:45!

The third CoordiNet Stakeholder Forum (SHF) will discuss recommendations for the energy market design, enabling TSOs and DSOs to procure standardized products for grid services in a coordinated manner across Europe. Coordinet aims to help enable decarbonization in the EU by increasing the share of RES in the electricity system through active network management.

This webinar aimed to encourage and extend the debate on sector coupling and its challenges by exploring new and innovative ideas and technologies which could facilitate the coupling of the electricity and gas sectors.

Eddie Project participated on the 6th of May on the online event – Launch of the New Manifesto for Enhancing Digital Competences across Europe organized by ALL DIGITAL, who represents more than 25.000 digital competence centres across EU. The manifesto seeks to contribute to dialogue, implementation, and cooperation on the EU actions to deliver Europe’s digital future.

The conference was structured along the five pillars of Agenda 2030: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships.

EDDIE Project participated at the Power Summit 2021 – Electric Decade, organized by EURELECTRIC, on 25th and 28th of May 2021. The Event highlighted important topics such as: Energy Transition, Renewable Heating Solutions, Hydrogen, Digital & Data, Innovation, Digital Jobs and Digitalisation.

EDDIE will be involved in the European Vocational Skills Week this year between 09 – 13 November as an associated event for dissemination project’s results, lesson learned and conclusions from the needs identified in the professional environment regarding the knowledge and skills on digitalization, VET providers, and the education system, with the involvement of policy makers. The European Vocational Skills Week is an annual event during which local, regional or national organizations showcase the very best of Vocational Education and Training (VET) – a sector capable of empowering all people with the skills they need for a fulfilling personal and professional life.

EDDIE - Online activities at #ErasmusDays 2020

A new opportunity for EDDIE to increase its visibility among external stakeholders is the event ErasmusDays. It was a great moment to spread the word about our project, share our experience and showcase the impact of EDDIE work. For this year, all the activities were hosted online, and EDDIE took this opportunity to share all its dissemination activities under the hashtag #ErasmusDays.

#ErasmusDays is an initiative of the Erasmus+ French National Agency on the 30th anniversary of Erasmus+ and consists of a series of bottom-up events organized by various Erasmus+ programme players.
